Created in 1991, these two beautifully detailed paintings portray women wearing colorful garments inspired by 18th-century French Caribbean costume. The artist's remarkable attention to the intricate folds of fabric, elaborate head coverings, expressive facial features, and traditional attire gives each composition a distinctive personality. The paintings feature delicate watercolor washes, fine illustrative details, and softly rendered backgrounds that allow the figures to command attention.

The signature and its intriguing history: Both watercolors bear the distinctive handwritten signature “Louloune,” accompanied by the date 1991. Research has uncovered a fascinating possible connection to Caribbean art history. Historical references document an artist known as Louloune whose original watercolors were exhibited through French artist Claude Victorine's gallery on the Caribbean island of Bequia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. A published biographical account of Claude Victorine identifies her daughter Frédérique, also known as Fredo, by the nickname “Louloune.” Although these discoveries provide a promising identification lead, the attribution of these particular paintings to Frédérique has not been authenticated. They are offered as original 1991 watercolors signed “Louloune,” with the artist's full identity remaining unconfirmed.
These are original watercolor paintings, not reproduction prints. Please review all photographs carefully — including the signatures, inscriptions, framing details, and reverse sides — as photographs are part of the description.
