Vintage framed reproduction of Maggio (“May”), based on the 18th-century composition engraved by Francesco Bartolozzi after Giuseppe Zocchi.
The scene depicts an elegant European garden setting with figures in period dress, classical statuary, architectural elements, flowers, and landscape details. The soft hand-colored appearance, Italian text beneath the image, and traditional gilt-finish wood frame give the piece a refined Old World character.
The original Maggio engraving was published in Venice in the 18th century by Joseph (Giuseppe) Wagner. This example is a later reduced reproduction, and the publisher or manufacturer of this particular edition has not been identified.
Presented under glass in a narrow gilt-finish wood frame with delicate beaded molding and decorative matting.
