Vintage Department 56 Dickens’ Village Nicholas Nickleby Cottage #5925-0

Charles Dickens gave Nicholas Nickleby a hard road through Yorkshire, and this is the cottage that bears his name — a deep-green shingled roof dusted with snow, three brick chimneys, half-timbered walls over warm stone, a bow window under the painted Nicholas Nickleby sign, and a Christmas wreath waiting by the door.

Department 56 introduced the Nicholas Nickleby Cottage in December 1988 as one of the two pieces in the Nicholas Nickleby set — its companion is the Wackford Squeers Boarding School — and retired it in December 1991. The underside carries the molded Dickens' Village Series mark with the 1988 copyright, and the original inspection sticker shows it was made in Taiwan for Department 56. A hand-painted porcelain building from the Heritage Village Collection, in the Dickens' Village Series.
