Fagin's Hide-A-Way is the tumbledown den from Charles Dickens' \u003cem\u003eOliver Twist\u003c\/em\u003e — the crumbling house where Fagin trains his young pickpockets, and where the Artful Dodger brings Oliver when he first arrives in London. Department 56 modeled it for the Dickens' Village Series in the Heritage Village Collection, and it remains one of the most characterful buildings in the whole village.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe handpainted porcelain piece joins two buildings into one deep, storybook whole. On the left stands a half-timbered cooperage under a steep green-shingled roof, its hand-painted sign reading “BARRELS” above arched wooden doors, with barrels stacked in the snowy courtyard between the buildings. On the right, the taller stone hideaway rises under burgundy tile roofs dusted with sculpted snow, carrying the script “Fagin” sign, a small balcony, a green plank door, and boarded windows that are part of the original sculpt — Fagin's den was meant to look this rough around the edges.
